When they were a part of the team, they won seven national titles as a group and Bookwalter was awarded numerous national titles in the Mountain Bike, Road and Cyclo-Cross disciplines. Bookwalter completed his studies at Lees-McRae at the end of 2006, with the BS with a major in Biology.
The year 2013 was the time Bookwalter took home the opening race in the Tour of Qatar, which was characterized by strong windsthat created gaps in the riders. Bookwalter and two others left the top group having 11 km (6.8 miles) to go and were able to defend their lead and Bookwalter beat the other two riders. The runners were chasing them when they crossed the finish line, and they were recognized with at the exact same moment as Bookwalter. A victory for the team time trial in stage two enabled Bookwalter to keep his yellow jersey throughout stage three and eventually finish second overall behind Mark Cavendish. Bookwalter would then be runner-up at the U.S. National Time Trial and Road Race in the spring, as well as finish second with Rohan Dennis during the first Tour of Alberta.
