Prior to serving in this role, he served as the head coach of Victorian Football League (VFL) club Box Hill from November 2008 to October 2010, guiding the club to two consecutive finals series in his two seasons in charge. Bolton is currently serving as the coaching director of the Hawthorn Football Club.
