Kearney was born on the 1st of March 1993, in Southfield Michigan to parents Derrick and Lea Hall-Kearney. He was a Detroit Schooling System until his senior year in high school, when he led the Detroit Southeastern team to two city championships during after his sophomore year, and also winning it in his senior year in 2011. Kearney followed up to take his squad to win winning the Michigan State Championship in the Class A State Championship game. In his sophomore year Kearney was chosen for in the United States as a member of the USA Developmental men’s(16U) team winning the Gold Medal in the F.I.B.A. America’s Tournament(2009). In his junior year, he played with his country, the USA(17) during the very first ever 3-on-3 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. He was picked and took part as a participant in the NBA top 100 camp for the next top 100 seniors across the nation. He scored a record- breaking 33 points in the game against Chicago Julian his junior year. In November 2010 , he signed an National Letter of Intent to participate in basketball at Michigan State University.

In November of 2016, he agreed to an offer for Windsor Express. Windsor Express of the NBL of Canada playing in 10 games, before being transferred back to Moncton. He scored 10-points per match for Windsor and had a 16-point showing against KW Waterloo Kitchener. Kearney was invited to attend the NBA professional day held in Miami where he took part in the league’s Miami Heat mini camp for the summer. In October of 2016 the Miami Heat’s NBA D League Affiliate, Sioux Falls Skyforce invited Kearney to attend their Veterans training camp, where he was part of the team’s final cut before the regular season began.

Following his undrafted status during the 2015 NBA draft, Kearney was selected as the 2nd overall by the Moncton Miracles of the National Basketball League of Canada for the 2015-16 season. In his 40 games with Moncton the player was averaging 10 points 3.5 assists as well as 4 Rebs per game. He was 4th overall in the NBL of Canada in 3pt Fg Pct. He also had 46% accuracy. Kearney was awarded all League Rookie honors.
