Fast (born 21st February, 1980) is an Canadian former professional defenceman in ice hockey. He played his amateur season with the British Columbia Hockey League, and was picked as the third pick of 1999 NHL Entry Draft, 84th overall with the Carolina Hurricanes. He was in one NHL games for the Hurricanes with a goal scored before beginning his European career.

Fast signed with the club in May 2008. Fast agreed to sign with Anyang Halla for a one-year contract. On September 2nd, Fast was named assistant captain of Halla. Fast became the first foreign player to ever be named assistant captain in the history of the franchise. The team announced in February of 2009 that Fast was signed for 2 more seasons.

The 2004-05 lockout period was primarily played by the Lock Monsters, but Fast was relegated into the ECHL and played through the last part of the year (and in the playoffs) with the Florida Everblades. Fast was hired with the Los Angeles Kings and played in the 2005-06 season with their AHL club The Manchester Monarchs. Fast was signed by his Swiss team Langnau for the season 2006-07. The following year Fast was also a player with Red Bull Salzburg EC in the Austrian League.

Fast played in seven games for his team the Lock Monsters to finish off the 2002-03 season. He began playing with the team full-time during the season 2003-04. Fast was called up and played a game for the parent Hurricanes making him one of the four players to score a goal during his first NHL game. Fast got his first professional goal in his first NHL game, scoring the sixth goal of the team in the final 2:26 minutes for the game to go into overtime that was tied at six. A former Spartan Rod Brind’Amour (1988-89) was the one who set up Fast’s game-winning goal. Fast made it the sixth Hurricane hockey player who scored during his NHL debut. The goal was also the only goal ever scored in an even game in the NHL in the NHL, which was when the league shifted to a shoot-out in the next season.

Fast was a player for his hometown Fort St. John Flyers at the age of 14 before joining the Prince George Spruce Kings in the BCJHL. After his third season with the BCJHL, Fast was drafted by the Hurricanes. After being selected, Fast enrolled at Michigan State University and played for four seasons with Michigan State University’s Michigan State Spartans. He was coach for one game, and was a standout at MSU and was recognized as an outstanding offensive defenseman. He was a part of the team in the famous outdoor sporting event The Cold War along with fellow defenseman John Michael Liles. In the final stretch of the 2002-03 hockey season, Fast signed an official contract to the Hurricanes and was a part of them as their American Hockey League affiliate, the Lowell Lock Monsters.
