Boyan Petrov is one of the most popular and richest Mountaineer who was born on February 7, 1973 in Sofia, Sofia Province, Bulgaria. Boyan Petrov (Bulgarian: Boian Petrov, born 7 February 1973 – disappears five May 2018,) was a Bulgarian mountaineer and zoologist who worked for Sofia’s National Museum of Natural History in Sofia.

At the time of his disappearance, at the time of his disappearance, he had summited 10 out of the 14 8-thousanders with no oxygen supplementation. In October of 2019, this feat placed him alongside Atanas Skatov to be the Bulgarian altitude climber with the greatest number of summits achieved of mountains over 8000m. The first Bulgarian to reach the top of four of these four mountains: Gasherbrum I (2009), Kangchenjunga (2014), K2 (2014) and Manaslu (2015).

Petrov was reported missing on May 5, 2018 when he was as he climbed Shishapangma. The search was ended on the 16th of May. According to climbers who have been around they believe he might have lost his footing as he climbed to the summit.

Boyan Petrov is a cancer survivor as well as an insulin dependent. In 2008, he fell while climbing the Alps and fractured his leg. In the descent of Gasherbrum II during 2009,, he was thrown into a crevasse of glacial ice and was rescued by an echelon comprised of Spanish climbers. In 2013, Petrov was injured in another leg as a result of a car crash. Despite the injuries, the next year, he was able to achieve an unbeatable hat-trick of climbs Kangchenjunga, Broad Peak, and K2 using internal fixators on this section. Following his descent from K2, he was struck by severe hypoglycemic crises at base camp. He losing consciousness, and recovered by utilizing the assistance by Polish climbers.

On May 20, 2014, He made history as the only Bulgarian to conquer the third- highest peak in Earth Kangchenjunga (8586m), and also the first person with diabetes to climb to such a high altitude without oxygen. On the 23rd of July, he summited Broad Peak (8047m). On the 31st of July, 2014, He became the very first Bulgarian to conquer the second highest mountain on the planet , K2 (8611m) as well as made the 35th person in history to conquer three eight- thousanders in under 100 days. The double climb he made – in Broad Peak and K2 – in just eight days is also a record for the world. In recognition of these amazing achievements, the Bulgarian climber was welcomed via a short video from legendary mountaineer Reinhold Messner. His documentary film on his climbing feats “3×8000” was broadcast on Bulgarian National Television in December 2014. He climbed to the top of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m) at the 29th of September 2017 at 11:30 pm without oxygen supplementary.
