Boris Rankov is one of the most popular and richest Historian who was born on August 9, 1954 in Bradford, England, United Kingdom. Nikolas Boris Rankov (born 9 August 1954) is a British professor of Roman history at Royal Holloway, University of London. He was a former rower and a current umpire.

His research interests are Roman history, particularly Roman Britain and Roman Britain, the Roman army, the epigraphy, archaeological archaeology in Roman times, the archaeology of the Roman empire, as well as ancient shipping. Rankov was the rowing master of the Trireme Trust’s reconstruction of the trireme Olympias. At the time of 2004 Rankov was the chairman of the Trust.

Rankov was a professor at his school in the Classics and Ancient History Department of The University of Western Australia between 1986 and 1989, as well as in the Classics Department at Royal Holloway University of London from 1990 and was the Director of the Department from 1999 to 2002.

Rankov was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, the sole one son born to Radoslav Rankov and Helga Rankov. He attended Bradford Grammar School (1963-73) Then he went on to Corpus Christi College, Oxford (MA 1980, DPhil 1987). The most well-known of his achievements is taking part in the Cambridge-Oxford Boat Race, which Oxford won in the period between 1978 and 1983.
