Boris Djerassi (born February 3 1952) is an athlete and strongman, who was based within the United States but originally from Haifa, Israel. Between 1973 and 1981 Djerassi was among the United States’ top ten throwing hammers, ranking first in three separate seasons. He was picked to be part of an Olympic Team in 1988, however it was the year that the United States boycotted the Moscow Games and Djerassi was not able to participate at the Olympics. He also participated in the World’s Strongest Man finals.

Djerassi was later an Track & Field Coach, and was a bodybuilding coach as well as body building and track & track national champs. In 1995, he graduated his Life Chiropractic College of Atlanta, Georgia and became a chiropractor.

In 1989, Northeastern University later inducted Boris into their Hall of Fame for his achievements in the field of track and field. In 1978, Djerassi was also invited to compete in the 1998 World’s Strongest Man contest, only the second time it’s been held. In this competition, Djerassi was said to represent Israel even though he had American citizenship.

Djerassi was born in his home in the US in the beginning of the 1970s, and began his studies in New York University. But, after NYU stopped their athletics programs during his sophomore year, he transferred to Northeastern University in 1973. The nickname was “Dov” (Hebrew for Bear) He was awarded All America honors in 1975 and was indoors in the weight and outside in the hammer. In the hammer, he began taking the lead in events like the New England, Eastern and eventually, the national collegiate hammer competition. In 1975, he defeated the the defending Champion Pete Farmer for the NCAA championship and the NCAA title in Provo, Utah in 1975 by only three inches. This was the first instance of the legendary quadruple sweeps. He continued to take home the Penn Relays, the IC4A Championships as well as the AAU Championships. It was his first person to achieve this feat in the same year.

He was in the 1980s when he won one of the three spots in the hammer at in the year 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, but was not able to compete because the USA pulled out of the Olympics. Djerassi received one of the 461 Congressional Gold Medals specifically designed for athletes with spurs. He was the national champion three times and four times All-American.
