Booker Newberry III (born January 19th 1956) is an American keyboardist and vocalist who was a part of the mid-70s soul group Sweet Thunder (“Baby I Need Your Love Today”) and Impact prior to launching his own solo career. Most likely, he is best known for the hit song from 1983 “Love Town”.
In 1991, he dropped “Bad Luck”, his final track to this point. The singer later released the second album of his studio, entitled Power People in 1996. In 2005, Unidisc Music released the Love Town compilation album. It featured previously unreleased songs that were recorded by Newberry in the 1980’s.
Newberry joined the Neil Bogart label Casablanca Records in 1983, and his track “Love Town” originally released on the Boardwalk label, became an instant Top 10 UK hit. Its Love Town album was issued in the same year. He has also released music with Malaco Records and Omni Records. In 1986, he debuted”Take a Piece of Me,” a single “Take a Piece of Me”.

Newberry was born in Youngstown, Ohio. Newberry began his professional singing career with the band Mystic Nights around the year 1971. After moving to Philadelphia He was the singer-in-chief of Sweet Thunder and also featured drummer John Aaron, bassist Rudell Alexander as well as guitar player Charles Buie. The group signed with Record label based in Philadelphia, WMOT Records, the group’s single, “Baby I Need Your Love Today” in conjunction with “I Don’t Care What You Say,” generated interest and was selected to be distributed from Berkeley, California based Fantasy Records.
The group released three albums: Above The Clouds (1976), Sweet Thunder (1978) as well as Horizons (1979) which, the one that saw the hit single “I Leave You Stronger,” climb to the top spot of the Billboard R&B chart by the latter part of 1979. Newberry became part of the other WMOT Records group, Impact who was well-known for dance-oriented hits such as “Give a Broken Heart a Break” and “Rainy Days Stormy Nights.”
