Bob Zimmer is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on October 20, 1968 in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada. Bob Zimmer MP (born October 20th 1968) is a Canadian politician and Member of the Parliamentary House of Commons of Canada. His seat was vacated to be represented by the Prince George-Peace River riding George-Peace River in the year 2011 election. He was re-elected in the election of 2015, and in the election of the 2019 Canadian federal election as an official participant in the Conservative Party of Canada. He was in the 41st Parliament as a member of the ruling party and the 42nd Parliament as a member of the opposition official. He has introduced a bill, his private members bill, Bill C-346, an Act that amends the Firearms Act (licences) which would have ended the expiration of licences to carry firearms, and the requirement that the holder of a licence must update their relevant information every ten years. However, the bill was rejected at the second reading. Zimmer is former carpenter, Fort St. John high school teacher, and sports enthusiast, began to get involved in politics at the federal level with his party, the Reform Party of Canada.
In the federal election of 2015, Zimmer opposed another study of missing and murdered Aboriginal women in an intense local debate in which he claimed that 42 studies had already been completed and that the primary issue that was identified in the RCMP report, was the economic condition or lack of job. Following the debate and the election, members of the Union of BC Indian Chiefs demanded Zimmer to quit as a presidential candidate. Zimmer has stated that “One of the major drivers of missing and murdered aboriginal women is the lack of economic activity, or simply put, the lack of a job. … Ultimately, when people have a job, they’re not in despair. They can stay on reserve, and that’s where we want them to be, we want them to be happy where they live.” The president of the Union of BC Indian Chiefs the Grand Chief Stewart Philip, characterized Zimmer’s remarks as “simplistic” and “unacceptable”. Zimmer has since clarified his remarks by stating that his remarks were in reference to the RCMP’s report about Missing and Murdered Aboriginal Women that lists employment status as being one of the factors that increase the likelihood of murdering Aboriginal women. Zimmer added that “I absolutely care about missing and murdered Aboriginal women and want to see it stopped. I have a wife and a daughter and a mother and it is a tragedy that we need to fix.”
In October of 2019 he was re-elected again, this time with just shy of 70% of the vote. On November 29 Andrew Scheer named him to the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Minister for Northern Affairs and Northern Economic Development Agency.
A federal vote took place in the month of May in 2011, where Zimmer took on former provincial legislator Lois Boone for the NDP, Prince George lawyer Ben Levine for the Liberal Party of Canada, and physiotherapist Hilary Crowley for the Green Party. During the campaign, Zimmer declared that he would push for a reduction in spending until the federal budget was in balance and also advocate for the use of federal funds to expand Highways 2 and the Alaska Highway to four lanes between the Alberta border and Fort St. John. Zimmer said he was of the opinion that the pensions of former politicians were excessive and that he would advocate for reforms to pensions. Zimmer was elected with 62.12 percent of the votes.
