The 12th of June, 2005 Boyer was brought up into the big leagues direct by the AAA Mississippi Braves, and made his debut on the same day in the match against Oakland Athletics. He scored 4-1 and an 2.05 ERA in 23 games at Atlanta’s home stadium, Turner Field. In his first season as a player with Atlanta’s Atlanta Braves as a midseason call-up, he scored 4-2 and had an 3.11 ERA in 37.2 innings. The next two years, Boyer was most of his playing time with the minors, making just seven games in all.
On June 8, 2009, Boyer was claimed by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He pitched stellar for the D’Backs for the remainder of the 2009 season, posting a 2.68 ERA in 30 games. He remained with the team the following season, appearing in 54 games.
On April 20, 2009, Boyer was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for Brian Barton. On June 4, Boyer was designated for assignment. In 15 games for the Cardinals, he had a 4.41 ERA.
In 2004 Boyer was a Class A player at Myrtle Beach. He was the top pitcher in this team to victory in the Carolina League with 154 innings pitched, and was named as a member of make the Carolina League All-Star team. He was named to be the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 3 , by The Sports Network.

Boyer was a student at George Walton Comprehensive High School in Marietta, Georgia. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves selected him in the third round of the 2000 Major League Baseball draft. His debut season in professional baseball was playing for the rookie team, the Gulf Coast Braves, where his record was 1-3, with an 2.51 Earned Run Average (ERA).
