Birgit Friedmann is one of the most popular and richest Athletics Competitor who was born on April 8, 1960 in Konigstein Im Taunus, Germany. Birgit Friedmann (born 8 April 1960) is an German former long- and middle distance athlete who ran in the 1500 and 3000 meter races to represent West Germany.
After her retirement from athletics, she completed her training in sports medicine. She is the head physician in the Sports Medicine Ward of the University Clinic in Heidelberg. In 2006 she co-authored a manual with fellow previous athletes Herbert Steffny and Markus Keller that was called Marathontraining fur Frauen (Marathon Training for women).
In the 1982 European Athletics Championships Friedmann achieved the West German and world junior record of 8:43.65 for 3000 meters however, this was just enough to get her fifth place. She also competed in 1500 meters at the championships, but finished a little further behind the winner with eleventh place. In 1982, her season marked her final as an athlete, and she was awarded her fourth and last national championship that year.

In Konigstein im Taunus, she made her debut appearance in West Germany at the 1977 European Athletics Junior Championships, where she came 7th in 1500 meters. In the following year, she took home the title of national champion in the 3000 m race at the West German Athletics Championships and finished second to Brigitte Kraus for the 1500 meters. She was chosen to compete in the longer race in the year 1978 European Athletics Championships, but she was unable to complete the race. She represented the country at the 1979 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and placed 71st. The West German women placed fourth overall.
Friedmann was her most successful in the year 1980. She was awarded her first West German title in the 3000 m run with a time of 9:02 mins. The result was her selection to in the 1980 World Championships in Athletics – an event with two events that was initiated in the International Amateur Athletics Federation in response to the absence of women’s 400m hurdles and the 3000 m race during the 1988 Summer Olympics. Friedmann beat all competitors in the event becoming the first women’s world champion with a personal record that was 8:48.05 minutes (also an official West German record). In the year following, she won her third national 3000 m title, and was also a second in the 1500m. She also took home the semi-finals of the 1981 European Cup competition.
