Billy Telford is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on March 5, 1956 in Carlisle, England, United Kingdom. William Albert Telford (born 5 March 1956) is an English former professional footballer who was a forward. He was a player for the Football League for Manchester City, Peterborough United and Colchester United. Also, he played with Runcorn, Bangor City, Oswestry Town, Worcester City, Macclesfield Town and Nortwich Victoria in non-league football.
Billy scored his first touch in his debut in the home game against Aldershot on the 13th of September, 1975. Billy joined the team in the second half to replace Alan Merrick who was on loan from West Brom and 13 seconds after the restart, he scored in the first half to provide The Posh a 1-0 lead Jack Howarth later equalized and the match ended 1-1. Neil Warnock was also playing on the wing for Aldershot.
Billy made his third and final appearance for Manchester City in what was to be his only English First Division league game. It was on 23 August 1975 away at Coventry City. Billy started the game on the bench but came on in the 12th minute for the injured Joe Royle.
Following being released by Tranmere Rovers after their relegation Billy Telford joined Manchester City in June 1975 as a trialist. Billy made his debut in the Anglo-Scottish Cup a new cup tournament for teams in England and Scotland replacing the Texaco Cup. The game was at home against Sheffield United, of which, Billy started and Man City won 3–1. Centre Back David Watson who was a new signing in the summer for the Blues from Sunderland also made his home debut in this game. Billy came off 10 minutes before the end to a home crowd standing ovation and a big hug from manager Tony Book.
Billy was later removed after being released from Tranmere Rovers at the end of 1974/75’s season after their demotion into the Fourth Division.

Bangor ended the season in 4th place in the league. This was their highest ever position since they joined in the Northern Premier League in 1968 and they were also the second top scoring team in the league, scoring the score of 87 goals. Billy did not play in the last few games in the league season due to his signing with the Ottawa Tigers in the National Soccer League.
Billy signed with Tranmere Rovers, as an apprenticeship at only 15 and a year old, in the month of January. He was given an official contract at the age of 18 on March 24, 1974. Even though Billy scored 47 goals in the 1973/74 and a further 35 goals from 1974/75 to March 1975 all for Tranmere Reserves, he was unable to make it into the difficult Tranmere premier team. Billy’s view is that Tranmere coach at that at the time Ron Yeats told him “Goals aren’t everything son”.

Billy ended the season as the leading goalscorer in the CNSL Second Division with 25 goals. He scored 23 goals in the regular league season and added two more in the playoffs. Ottawa Tigers’ win in the playoffs earned them promotion to the CNSL First Division. Billy then rejoined Bangor City when the Canadian season ended in October 1977.
