Benjamin Sifrit is one of the most popular and richest Criminal who was born on February 3, 1978 in Estherville, Iowa, United States. Erika Elaine Sifrit (nee Grace; born on February 3, 1978) and Benjamin Adam “BJ” Sifrit (born on the 21st of October 1977) are two American couple who were found guilty of killing two tourist victims, Joshua Edward Ford and Martha Margene “Geney” Crutchley located in Ocean City, Maryland in 2002. The case attracted a lot of media interest. In 2003 the two Sifrits were found guilty of the murders.

On the 25th of May 2002, the couple, each of them being 24 at the time were able to meet another couple, Joshua Ford and Martha Crutchley an uninvolved couple who were from Fairfax, Virginia. In the wake of a night spent dancing with each other on Seacrets nightclub in Ocean City, Maryland. Seacrets club in Ocean City, Maryland, the two couples returned to the Sifrits their condominium within The Rainbow on 112th Street. According to reports of the Sifrits stated their claim that Ford and Crutchley took Erika’s purse and Benjamin fired a gun at the couple. After they fled into the bathroom Ford suffered fatal injuries after four shots by Erika’s gun. Crutchley died as well. Investigators believe she was stabbed but the reason for her death couldn’t be determined from her body. The bodies were later taken apart and then disposed of in a garbage bin at the grocery store at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The remains were later transferred to a nearby landfill after which they were found by searchers 9 days after.

In July 2009, a book entitled Cruel Death, written by M. William Phelps, was released about the case.

Both Sifrits have filed numerous appeals, all of which have failed. Benjamin exhausted his last appeal in 2010. He will be eligible for parole in 2021. Erika’s appeal, citing ineffectiveness of counsel, was denied in 2014. She will be eligible for parole in 2024.

The Sifrits were detained in May of 2002 but not for murder They were arrested for burglarizing the Hooters restaurant. When the police searched Erika’s bag and found drivers permits of Ford and Crutchley who at that moment had been reported missing for several days. Erika admitted to killing the couple within a few hours of her arrest, however she said that the idea was the husband’s.

Erika Elaine Grace was born in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania, to Charlotte Gail “Cookie” (nee Klotz) and Gerald Mitchell Grace. Benjamin Adam “BJ” Sifrit was born in Estherville, Iowa, to Elizabeth Ann “Buffie” (nee Graves) and Craig Arthur Sifrit. Erika and Benjamin were married in 1998, at the age of twenty years old. She was an honors scholar and a basketball player in Mary Washington College. He was a BUD/S graduate (Basic underwater demolition School) but did not receive the SEAL Trident or became an Navy SEAL before receiving an unjustified discharge for being absent repeatedly without leave, not obeying orders and wearing unauthorised insignia. Soon after their marriage the Sifrits relocated near Erika’s home town from Altoona, Pennsylvania. They opened and operated a scrapbook shop.

Benjamin Sifrit is currently serving 38 years in the Roxbury Correctional Institution located in Hagerstown, Maryland, while Erika is serving a life- long sentence, plus 20 years in the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women in Jessup. The couple was married in 1998. Sifrits divorced in 2010.

Because of the heavy publicity of the case, the Sifrits’ trials were moved out of Worcester County, Maryland. Benjamin’s trial was held in Rockville, and Erika’s was held in Frederick. At Benjamin’s 2003 trial, a 22-year-old woman named Melissa Seling testified that she was subjected to the same ritual that Joshua and Martha endured, although she was able to avoid being killed. On April 9, 2003, Benjamin was convicted of second-degree murder and first-degree assault in the death of Crutchley, and was acquitted of all charges in the death of Joshua Ford. He was later sentenced to thirty-eight years in prison. Erika’s trial started shortly afterwards, on June 3, 2003. On June 11, she was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Ford and second-degree murder in the death of Crutchley, and was later sentenced to life imprisonment plus twenty years.
