When she was working in 2000 for NBC Nightly News, Sherwood published a bestseller titled The Man Who Eaten The 747, published by Bantam Books. The tragicomic story is about an investigator from a imaginary Guinness Book of Records who goes across Superior, Nebraska to authenticate the record attempt of the consumption of the contents of a Boeing 747. The record-keeper encounters an uninitiated and confused Nebraska farmer inhaling the 747 through grinding the portions of it to powdery dust. In ingesting the plane the farmer hopes to show the extent and magnitude of his devotion to the woman who lives in a small town.
In January 2009, expanding upon the themes of his most recent book, Sherwood launched a website called www.TheSurvivorsClub.org, an online resource center and support network for people facing all manners of adversity.
In January 2009, his first non-fiction book, The Survivors Club: The Secrets and Science that Could Save Your Life, was published by Grand Central Publishing, an imprint of Hachette Book Group. The Survivors Club explores human survival in all its forms. The book became a New York Times bestseller and has been published in more than 15 languages.
The year 1997 saw Sherwood was hired by NBC’s Nightly News along with Tom Brokaw as a Producer as well as a Senior Producer and eventually, as the senior Broadcast Producer in which he was part of the reporting on 11 September 11 attacks. Sherwood quit NBC News in January 2002.
