Repertaining the Ethiopian Commercial Bank team, she placed third in the Jan Meda Cross Country in February 2011 , and earned an opportunity to join on the Ethiopian international team. at the 2011, IAAF World Cross Country Championships she finished 10th in the women’s senior race. She also took part in the silver medal for the team with Meselech Melkamu Wude Ayalew as well as Genzebe Dibaba. Moving to the track, she took home the 10,000-meter award during the Ethiopian Athletics Championships. Then, she recorded a personal best of 31:17.80 minutes in that race in the Golden Spike Ostrava meet and was third in the World 10K Bangalore behind Dire Tune and Merima Mohammed. She was chosen to be part of the Ethiopian team for the 2011 World Championships in Athletics however she was unable to participate.
In November, she was runner-up to Linet Masai in the Cross de Atapuerca race, and then set a new personal best of 1:07,27 hours in the Delhi Half Marathon, finishing fourth. The first race of 2012 saw her take home in the Houston Half Marathon with a time of 1:08 26 hours (also an official Texas time record for the state). She significantly improved her best time of 10,000 meters during the Prefontaine Classic in June, finishing in 30:26.70 minutes to secure third place. The result earned her a spot as a member of the Ethiopian team for the 2012 London Olympics and she was able to place fifth in the 10,000 m final.
