Beauty Lily Zhuwao (/z u”w aI OU” on 10th January, 1965) is a Zimbabwean politician and spouse of former Minister Patrick Zhuwao. The couple is the daughter-inlaw of Sabina Mugabe, who is the sister of the former president of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe. In the years prior to 2015. Zhuwao participated in the ZANU-PF political scene, having served for a number of times as the provincial treasurer of the party in Mashonaland West Province.

On July 15, 2015 Zhuwao quit her position as ZANU-PF’s Mashonaland-West provincial Women’s League treasurer due to the pressure of fellow members of the party. They accuse her of refusing sign a petition which caused the resignation of the provincial chair in interim Ziyambi Ziyambi. Zhuwao was believed to be an avid Ziyambi supporter and thus attacked by Ziyambi opposition. Zhuwao said she quit, but she said her resignation was not connected to politics. Rather she was stepping down to pursue studies at Zimbabwe’s University of Zimbabwe.

Then, in October of 2014 Zhuwao was involved in fierce ZANU-PF succession battle with Vice President Joice Mujuru, then the Minister of Justice Emmerson Mnangagwa. In what her husband called an “coup” attempt, Zhuwao was slapped by Mashonaland West provincial chairperson Temba Mliswa during a tense exchange of words. The woman was said to have struck Mliswa who didn’t react until other people intervened. The story soon were widely shared across the web. A meeting with government officials the next day the President Robert Mugabe reportedly denied that an attempt to overthrow the government occurred and expressed his disapproval of the incident and offered an apology to Mliswa on behalf of Zhuwao. Mugabe was also reported to have asked the Media Minister Jonathan Moyo why Mliswa was being depicted in the state media as an aggressor , when in reality Mliswa was actually the victim in the attack. Zhuwao also confirmed the incident, but declined to comment, declaring that she will issue an announcement.

In 2008-09, during the Zimbabwean negotiations over the political situation, Zhuwao was selected to serve on the Constitution Select Committee (COPAC) that was responsible for drafting an updated Zimbabwean constitution. She was assigned to serve as a rapporteur, gauging public opinion during the constitution-drafting process. In September of 2010 Zhuwao slapped another members of the committee Bednock Nyaude, MDC-T House of Assembly member representing Bindura South. Zhuwao slapped Nyaude in the office that the District Manager of Kadoma within the Mashonaland West Province. She punched him in his chest, accusing him of making the claim that she was suffering from personal problems, which Nyaude did not deny. After the incident, Nyaude filed a complaint in the Kadoma Central Police Station on 7 September 2010. She she also informed COPAC Members Editor Matamisa as well as Walter Chidakwa, both House of Assembly members. Matamisa was then, in turn, informed COPAC vice- chairs Paul Mangwana and Douglas Mwonzora. Monzwora told them that if they the investigation was found to be inconclusive, Zhuwao would be suspended from COPAC.

On February 6, 2011 Zhuwao lost to Tsitsi Mugabe, in an race for the post of chairperson of Zvimba District Coordinating Board. Mugabe got 26 votes, compared against Zhuwao’s 14.
