Bassam Tariq is one of the most popular and richest Film Director who was born on October 22, 1986 in Karachi, Romania. When Tariq returned in New York, he read about a humanitarian from Pakistan known as Abdul Sattar Edhi, who created the first ambulance service that was established in Pakistan around 1950. He also created the Edhi Foundation. Tariq and Mullick were planning to make an film about him, however Edhi advised them to concentrate on the work the foundation was doing. In the end, the film follows a runaway boy named Omar who is a resident of an asylum for runaways which Edhi oversees.

This Sundance film These Birds Walk premiered at South by Southwest 2013 and was released in theaters across the US in November of 2013. The film examines the struggle of children living on the streets from Karachi, Pakistan who are living under the Edhi Foundation, a non-profit social welfare organization, as well as the patient but uneasy ambulance driver who is required to bring them back to their home they’ve fled to.

In October 2014, he hosted a TED Talk titled “The beauty and diversity of Muslim life.” The talk explores how his eclectic career reflects his perspective on what it means to be Muslim, and he relates his disparate professions as a response to the complicated history that America has with diversity and people who oversimplify Muslim beliefs and communities.

In 2014, Tariq co-founded a halal butcher shop in the East Village in New York with Khalid Latif and Russell Khan. The shop, Honest Chops, was initially started because of the founders’ frustration with the lack of halal meat options in New York City. The butcher shop sources organic, humanely-raised animals from the Tri-State area and attempts to make the product accessible and affordable. A portion of the profits goes toward building social services and institutions in New York City. The shop also distributes meat to soup kitchens, food pantries and families in need around major holidays.

The year 2009 was the time that Tariq along with his pal Aman Ali launched a blogging project named 30 Mosques in 30 Days. In Ramadan, Tariq and Ali broke their fast in different mosques throughout New York each night of Ramadan. They posted their experiences on Tumblr. Tumblr blog.
