The place of birth was Suai and later Portuguese Timor. Then he went to Portugal in 1977, and was ordained as a priest in Evora in 1977. He served for twenty decades throughout Portugal in both Portugal and France before returning to France in 1994, in the midst of Indonesian occupation.
He was appointed the apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Baucau on November 30, 1996, and the titular bishop on 6 January 1997. At the time that Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo retired, Nascimento became apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Dili till the newly appointed bishop of Dili, Alberto Ricardo da Silva was appointed on the 6th of March, 2004. Nascimento then became the bishop of Baucau.
On March 31, 2018, Nascimento collapsed during Mass at St. Anthony’s Cathedral in Baucau and was rushed to Dili National Hospital. He recovered and was discharged on 4 April 2018. He is the head of the East Timor bishop’s conference.
