Barry Sparks (born June 20 1968, in Lucasville, Ohio) is the former bassist of Yngwie Malmsteen and The Michael Schenker Group, UFO, Dokken, and Ted Nugent among others. Presently, Sparks plays in the band that tours with The Japanese B’z, a rock band from Japan. B’z and has played on numerous of their albums as well as singles.

Since 2001, Sparks was appointed the bassist for Dokken the band, an association that continued until 2009, and produced three studio albums. At this point, Sparks and Dokken drummer Mick Brown also played with Ted Nugent, documented on the live album from 2008 Sweden Rocks.

After previously touring with the band in 2003 for their Big Machine album, Sparks was again recruited by Japanese superstars B’z for their 2008 “Glory Days” tour, re-teaming with his former Yngwie Malmsteen, MSG and Cosmosquad rhythm partner, drummer Shane Gaalaas. He has remained a touring member ever since and has also recorded with the band.

In 2004, Sparks was called to record bass tracks for the Scorpions’ Unbreakable album. That same year, Sparks filled in for one of his all-time bass heroes, Pete Way of UFO, on the You Are Here U.S. tour. He last toured with the group in 2011.

in 1997, Sparks along with Michael Schenker Group drummer Shane Gaalaas teamed up with guitarist Jeff Kollman to form the all-instrumental fusion group Cosmosquad which included Sparks recorded three albums before leaving. They also performed with singer John West on his 1998 album, Permanent Mark. The year 1998 saw Sparks was a tour musician along with pop singer Billie Myers of “Kiss the Rain” fame. The trio made radio and TV appearances as well as playing across the globe with shows that included Bob Dylan in Europe.

In the 1990s, Sparks appeared on albums of ex- Loudness voice actor Michael Vescera and then Helloween guitarist Roland Grapow, toured with the future UFO groupmate Vinnie Moore, and recorded and toured with former Scorpions guitar legend Uli Jon Roth.

Sparks began working with Nugent on the “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers” U.S. summer tour of 2003.
