She was selected as her running as a running mate from Bill Ritter, the Democratic candidate for Governor of Colorado in the presidential election of 2006. The Ritter/O’Brien ticket was able to win at 57% votes. As lieutenant governor , she declared education to be her main issue. Ritter decided not to run for reelection in 2010 and O’Brien has also announced her resignation at the conclusion of her term.
