Barbara Gasser is one of the most popular and richest Artistic Gymnast who was born on August 30, 1989 in Bregenz, Vorarlberg, Austria. Born in Lustenau the family of Gasser moved into Canada at the age of three in 2003. She then lived and competed at Sarnia, Ontario, but because she had Austrian citizenship, she continued to play for Austria.

Gasser began her gymnastics training at age seven initially in Lustenau. She was a member of an entry into the Vorarlberg regional team, and was able to practice in the Vorarlberg Regional Gymnastics Training Centre in Dornbirn. Her trainer was Christine Frauenknecht. In the year 2010, Frauenknecht was named Coach of the Year. Austrian Youth Coach of the Year. Gasser has won numerous gymnastics competitions for juniors and was also the junior regional champion in 2001. The year 2002 saw her was selected to join the Austrian junior team, which participated at the European Junior Championships in Patras. The year 2003 was the time she was named the Austrian All-around Junior champion. The same year, she was the first woman to win a senior title as a regional champion at the top of her vault. It is also when in which her family relocated to Canada.

At the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo, Gasser’s results earned the highest ranked Austrian gymnast a place at the 2012 Olympic Test Event. She was the highest ranked Austrian gymnast and competed at the Test Event where she achieved Olympic qualification. This was a historic success for an Austrian gymnast, as Gasser was the first female Austrian gymnast to qualify for an Olympic Games since Henriette Parzer (Behrendt) qualified for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

At the 2012 Olympics, she was joined by another member of the Vorarlberg Gymnastics squad, Caroline Weber. In the individual all-around event at the 2012 Olympics, Gasser suffered a fall from the beam, and therefore finished in 46th place.

The most successful event for Gasser is the bars that are uneven. It was with this apparatus that she took silver in her World Cup in 2010. World Cup event in Osijek. In this competition, she came 11th at the overall World Cup, improving to seventh in 2012.
