In 2005, she was appointed State ProsecutorGeneral by the centre-right administration in Janez Jansa. Under the left-of-center government of Borut Pahor she was in a dispute with the minister of Justice Ales Zalar over the issue of interfering by the ministry in the matter of criminalization. In 2011 she was replaced by Zvonko Fiser.
She was one of those who co-founded the conservative liberal platform for civic engagement Rally for the Republic (Slovene Zborza republiko).

After graduating from her studies at the Bezigrad Grammar School after which she was accepted into the University of Ljubljana where she was a law student. The year 1993 was the time she was appointed an officer in charge of the department of business and economic criminals within the Slovenian public prosecutor’s office. In 1996, prosecutor general Anton Drobnic appointed her as the head of a prosecutorial group for organized and corporate criminals. The year 1997 was the first time she was an official member of the Council of Experts of the Council of Europe on money laundering. She was running as a potential candidate for Prosecutor General in Slovenia and was unsuccessful, however the government headed by Janez Drnovsek selected Zdenka Cerar in her place. In the same year, she quit her post as the chief of the Special Group of prosecutors in disagreement with the Prosecutor General who was newly appointed.
The year 2000 began, Brezigar became Minister of Justice within the short- lived centre right-wing cabinet under Andrej Bajuk. In September of the following year was the same time, and she failed to was a candidate in the Slovenian National Assembly on the list of the Slovenian Democratic Party. In 2002’s Slovenian presidential election she was the candidate for President of Slovenia with the backing from both the Slovenian Democratic Party along with New Slovenia. In the second round, she was defeated election in the run-off elections by Janez Drnovsek.
In March 2012, she was appointed State Secretary at the Minister of Interior by the centre-right government of Janez Janša.
