Bambang Soesatyo is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on September 10, 1962 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Bambang Soesatyo (born 10 September 1962) is an Indonesian businessman and politician who is currently the speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly, and was previously the Speaker of the People’s Representative Council. A member of the Golkar Party, he was elected to the nation’s legislature in elections of 2009. On January 15, 2018, Golkar chose him to succeed Setya Novanto who had quit as speaker of the parliament amid an investigation into corruption.

2013 Indonesian investor Muhammad Nazaruddin under investigation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named two Golkar Party politicians Aziz Syamsudin and Bambang Soesatyo, as well as The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) on Commission III of the House of Representatives who were believed to be implicated in the alleged corruption of procurement simulators for four and two-wheeled driving permits in the Traffic Corps of Police Headquarters for the fiscal year of 2011. The state was reported to have lost about Rp 100 billion (US$10 million) in this Rp 198.7 billion fraud in procurement investigation. Bambang has denied any allegations.

In 2014, Bambang stood for re-election in the election and received 57,235 votes, making him the only candidate from the district affiliated with Golkar. He blamed vote buying as a reason for Golkar’s declining votes. By January 2016, internal changes in Golkar resulted in him being assigned as Chairman of Commission III. Bambang was also a member of a special committee (Panitia Khusus/Pansus) for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), seen by many observers as an attempt to restrict the anti-graft body’s powers.

Bambang is married to Lenny Sri and he has eight children. He collects luxury vehicles including a Tesla Model X, which he reported in 2016 as two Harley- Davidson motorcycles and ten cars, valued at Rp 18 billion (about US$1.35 million), compared to his total reported assets of Rp 62 billion (US$4.66 million).

After not gaining an office at four different times (including in 1997 1999, 1997 in 2004 and 1997), Bambang secured a seat on the People’s Representative Council following the elections in 2009 where he competed in Central Java’s seventh electoral district. It covers the governories comprising Purbalingga, Banjar, and Kebumen. Following his inauguration the council was assigned as a member of Commission III on law, human rights , and security. In the following years, he was a member of a committee that was to investigate the controversy surrounding an Rp 6.7 trillion rescue plan of Bank Century, given during the 2007-2008 financial crisis and involving the finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, and then vice-president Boediono.
