Bakht Baidar Biography

Bakht Baidar is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 1, 1950 in Lower Dir District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. His political career began at the District Council level in 1979. He has run for office three times at district council level, and the council was elected twice in 1983 and 1979. In 1993, he was elected as a an assembly member in the province in the very first instance. He was in prison several times during the course of his career in politics.

He was sworn in as Minister of the PTI controlled provincial government on 13 June 2013.

There have been multiple attacks on the guest house of Bakht Baidar. The deadliest attack left six people dead and wounded four on the night of Eid Ul Fitr 2014. The funeral prayers of the dead were offered on Eid day, thus turning Eid into mourning. The dead included Muhammad Ishaq (brother of Bakht Baidar) and two policemen. Baidar was on Umra Trip and arrived the next day. After the incident many leaders including Siraj ul Haq, the Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan offered condolences to the family.

Baidar was blamed for violating party policy in the Senate Elections in March

2015. The party chief Aftab Ahmad Khan sent him a show cause notice. However, Baidar asked for an unconditional apology from the party leadership and threatened he would resign from the party. This would eventually lead him to quit his provincial assembly membership.

He graduated in 1968 from a the school located in a village called Ouch. He was disqualified from the elections of the Musharraf the era when candidates were required to possess a bachelor’s. However his PPP coalition government eliminated this requirement, and he was allowed to take part in the election on 11 May 2013.
