He was placed 23rd on the party’s list, and returned to the Knesset when Likud won 27 seats. Kara sought and received a ministerial post: becoming Israel’s new Deputy Minister of the Development of the Negev and Galilee. He is the first non-Jewish nationalist to receive a portfolio. Kara opposed the inclusion of Kadima in Netanyahu’s government, saying that Likud had “no room for traitors”.

In the months prior to an official disengagement with Gaza and the northern West Bank, Gaza Strip and northern West Bank, Kara requested from the then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, that Druze soldiers should not be given jobs connected to the disengagement because the Druze were opposed to the disengagement and didn’t wish to be involved with the process. Kara was threatened with removal from the Knesset because he tried to block the disengagement plan while it was going through. The Israeli media referred to him as”the “prophet of fury”. A few years earlier, he had opposed the decision to withdraw out of Lebanon at the time of 2000 advising that Hezbollah could increase its power in the absence of Israel.
