Shortly following, her family moved to Ilesa and later to Ile-Ife in Ile-Ife, where she lived for much of her youth living in the Staff Quarters in Obafemi Awolowo University. She was a student at Obafemi Awolowo University, earning BA and MA degrees in Literature in English and in 2014 she enrolled in Creative Writing (MA Prose fiction) at the University of East Anglia, where she was awarded an international Bursary. She also has been studying alongside Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie as well as Margaret Atwood.

in 2015 Adebayo has been praised by Financial Times as one of the brightest stars in Nigerian literature. Her debut novel”Stay With Me was published at the end of 2017 Canongate Books to critical acclaim and was nominated to be a finalist for the Wellcome Book Prize, the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction and the 9mobile Prize for Literature, which the novel was awarded in the year 2019. The novel was also longlisted in the International Dylan Thomas Prize. Before publication, the novel was shortlisted in 2013 for the Kwani? Manuscript Project, a prize for fiction that has not been published that includes The Series Editor of the prize is Ellah Allfrey.

Adebayo was a writer-in-residence in Ledig House Omi, Hedgebrook, Sinthian Cultural Institute, Ox-Bow School of Art, Siena Art Institute, and Ebedi Hills. She was nominated to be a finalist for the Miles Morland Scholarship in 2014 and 2015. In 2019, she was an invited guest at Ake Arts and Book Festival.
