Axelle Lemaire (born 18 October 1974) is an French ex- Socialist politician who was a deputy in the Third constituency of French overseas residents of the National Assembly of the French Parliament in 2012. She was elected in 2012.

In 2012, Lemaire was elected Deputy in one of the eleven constituencies newly established that were each selected by French citizens from abroad in the French National Assembly. The constituency she served as the first deputy includes all of the registered French citizens living in 10 Northern European countries: Iceland, Norway, Denmark (including the Faroe Islands and Greenland), Sweden, Finland, Great Britain, and Northern Ireland, Ireland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. In 2011, it had 140,731 French citizens in its electoral roll and the majority (113,655) reside with the United Kingdom, which has the third largest French expat population worldwide. Therefore, her campaign for the presidency was given a lot of attention from the British media.

In May 2014, Prime Minister Manuel Valls appointed her to the French Finance Ministry as minister responsible for Digital Affairs.

She resigned from the position in February 2017 to focus on the Socialist Party’s candidate campaign for French presidential election. She then joined the campaign to retain her seat in the French Parliament but was severely defeated by Alexandre Holroyd of La République En Marche!

Lemaire was secretary of Lemaire was Secretary of the French Socialist Party (PS) in London from 2008 until her election to the National Assembly in 2012. In the words of Le Point the newspaper, she declined the post of minister in Jean-Marc Ayrault’s government due to the fact that being the mother of two children, she did not have the desire to move out of London. She has been the Chair for the France-UK Parliamentary Friendship Group. She didhowever accept the post of Minister of State , Digital Affairs under Valls The new government that took office in April of 2014.
