Arsen Galstyan is one of the most popular and richest Judoka who was born on February 19, 1989 in Armenia. Arsen Galstyan, born 19 February 1989 , in Nerkin Karmiraghbyur. town in Nerkin Karmiraghbyur in north-east Armenia. He was the son of a professional football player who played at the side of Impuls FC Dilijan in the second decade of the 1970s. He later, he was a member of FC Ararat Yerevan. When he was within Armenia, Galstyan played the drums in the national group. At the age of seven, his family relocated to Russia and was settled in the stanitsa town in Giaginskaya, Adygea. He attended the school No. 4 in the village. He also started Judo at the local club. Galstyan initially played volleyball, and followed by football before starting the judo. The brothers of his, Arman as well as Tigran, also participate in the judo sport. Igor Romanov was the first coach of Arsen and continues to be the personal coach of Arsen.
Galstyan traveled to Armenia following the Olympic gold medal. He was considered a hero to the people of his country. It was the most thrilling Olympic time for him. He continues to consider Armenia as his country of birth as well as Russia. Armenian Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Hrachya Rostomyan was congratulated by Galstyan for his 2012 Olympic win. Galstyan encouraged all international Armenian athletes to strengthen connections with their homeland.
Galstyan competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Men’s -60 kg division. Galstyan was an underdog and found himself fighting all of the favorites. In the semifinals, he bested Asian Champion Choi Gwang-Hyeon. Galstyan next overcame reigning two-time World Champion Rishod Sobirov, ranked number one by the International Judo Federation, in the semifinals. Finally, Arsen Galstyan and Hiroaki Hiraoka fought in the finals, and Galstyan defeated Hiraoka with an ippon after 41 seconds. Galstyan scored the ippon as he was about to fall victim to an ippon of Hiraoka’s. He achieved his dream of winning an Olympic gold medal and brought Russia its first medal of the Olympic Games. Galstyan is the first ever judoka from the Russian Federation to win an Olympic gold medal. He dedicated his victory to the victims of the flood in the Krasnodar region.

Arsen Zhorayevich Galostyan (Armenian: Arsen Galstyan , Russian: Arsen Zhoraevich Galstian born 19 Feb 1989) is an Armenian-born Russian Judoka. Galstyan has been named a Merited Master for Sports from Russia and was an Olympic Champion at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
He came in third in the Russian National Championship and, that same year, he first made it to Russia internationally. He has been a part of the Russian national Judo team since. He was a champion in 2009 when he was an European Champion, and in 2010, he took home an Olympic bronze medal at the World Championship.
His father was his last football coach. Arsen’s two brothers, senior Tigran and junior Arman, are both masters of judo and help Arsen train. Galstyan is not married. As of 2012, Galstyan lives in the city of Krasnodar.
