Ariel Atias (Hebrew: AryAl ATyAs born 13 November , 1970) is an Israeli politician who was an official in Shas’ Knesset for Shas as well as as the minister for Housing and Construction. He also served as the manager of Shas the organization that oversees kosher food, Badatz Beit Yosef. On the 22nd of June, 2014, Shas handed in his resignation to the Parliament and cited his withdrawal from the political arena.
Atias was elected to his seat during his 2013 Knesset elections, however Shas was not part of the coalition, which resulted in Atias being removed from his Ministerial job. He resigned from Knesset on June 14, 2014 to get away from politics. He became replaced with Yoav Ben-Tzur.
He remained in his seat during the elections of 2009 He was ranked in the second spot in the Shas list. He was named as Minister of Housing and Construction in the Netanyahu government. At the time of his election, Atias demanded the separation of Israel’s Arab people from Jews He claimed that achieving this is “a national duty … populations that should not mix are spreading … I don’t think that it is appropriate [for them] to live together”.
