As motorbike engine and tire technology improved the frames of motorcycles became more and more strained. As early as 1982 Cobas came up with a more durable and light twin-beam aluminum chassis that could replace backbone frames made of steel. The design was copied by major manufacturers of motorcycles in the early 1990s.
