She is the holder of the Italian national women’s high-jump record of 2.03 meters in outdoor competitions, and 2.04 meters for indoor competitions. She also holds the record for the highest jump-differential in women’s history which means she’s jumped the longest (0.35 meters) higher than what she is taller than.
Di Martino also won the silver medal at the 2007 World Championships, having jumped 2.03 meters. The 2008 season was less impressive, and she only managed the tenth place during her 2008 Beijing Olympics and finished the year with a severe toe injury that forced her to contemplating quitting the sport.
Her first significant international achievement was winning silver medal at the 2007 European Indoor Championships in Birmingham. In the same year, she won the silver medal at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. After a disappointing Olympics in Beijing, she won her first gold medal at the European Indoor Championships in 2011 in Paris and the bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu. In 2012, she won another silver medal at the World Indoor Championships.
In September 2009, she changed coach and a resurgence in her form. She won the Italian Indoor Championships, but illness ruled her out of the 2009 European Indoor Championships a few months later. She took bronze at the 2009 European Team Championships and soon after, she beat Blanka Vlašić to win the Golden Gala meeting, jumping 2.00 m in Rome. She cleared 1.99 m at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics, securing a fourth-place finish. She capped off the year with a bronze at the final edition of the World Athletics Final.
Her personal highest outdoor jump is 2.03 metres. She achieved this on June 24, 2007 in Milan in Milan, surpassing her record. Her previous Italian records of 2.02 meters. Her most impressive indoor performance was during an indoor high jump event in Slovakia on February 9, 2011, with an all-time record national record of 2.04 meters. At just 1.69 meters, this leap is the world’s unofficial women’s record for the longest leap over one’s own size (at 35 centimeters). Di Martino used to be involved in heptathlons, and achieved an individual best with 5542 points (2001).

Her abilities as a jumper first noticed in July of 2001, during the Italian Championship in Catania when her leap boosted her personal record to 1.93 and 1.98 meters, thereby achieving the personal best of the accomplished Italian high jumper Antonella Bevilacqua. The following month she was able compete in the world finals in which she was twelfth place in the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton. In 2006 she was 5th in the World Indoor Championships in Moscow and 10th in the European Championships in Gothenburg.
Her athletic started at 12 years old at the Youth Games, which highlighted her early beginnings. It was also coincidental that the high jump wasn’t her first choice of sport. Through her early years she practiced javelin throw, and then continued to try to compete in various disciplines. She was the first national team for heptathlon during the European Cup in 2001.
In February 2007, she cleared 2.00 metres in Banská Bystrica, breaking Sara Simeoni’s previous Italian indoor record of 1.98 m. She followed this up with a silver medal at the 2007 European Indoor Championships, where she jumped 1.96 m.
