Annette Kurschus is one of the most popular and richest Theologian who was born on February 14, 1963 in Rotenburg an der Fulda, Hesse, Germany. Annette Kurschus grew up in Obersuhl in Hessen and in Siegen. She was the daughter of Georg Kurschus (1930-2017) was a pastor of the protestant church of the Nikolai Church in Siegen. After finishing High School in Siegen around 1982. She pursued a degree in medicine for a brief period but, since 1983, she has been studying Protestant theology was studied at the University of Bonn, the University of Marburg, the University of Munster and at the Kirchliche Hochschule Wuppertal. She was crowned vicariate in Siegen- Eiserfeld.

Since November 15, 2015 Annette Kurschus has also been an active part of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany as well as deputy chairperson of the Council and, since 2016, as the commissioner for the EKD Council for relations with the Polish churches.

On 20 November 2019 Annette Kurschus was confirmed in the function of the Praeses and re-elected for a further term.

Annette Kurschus is co-editor of the evangelical magazine chrismon and the evangelical monthly magazine zeitzeichen. She is chairwoman of the board of the evangelical press association and of the supervisory board of the German Bible Society. Furthermore she is a member of the board of trustees of the Detmold University of Music and since 2020 she is a member of the university council of the University of Münster.

In November of 2011, she was selected at the Westphalian regional synod to be the Praeses from the Evangelical Church of Westphalia (EKvW) and was formally ordained into the role of the head clergy on the 4th of March in 2012.

The University of Münster awarded Annette Kurschus an honorary doctorate (Dr. theol. h.c.) on 28 January 2019. She received the award due to her merits concerning the dialogue between religion and society.
