2020. She was a the Member of the Parliament (MP) in the constituency of Oxford East since 2017.

Dodds did not win a seat in the district of Billericay at the time of the 2005 general election as well as the seat in Reading East at the 2010 general election. She also lost the elections of 2006. Oxford City council elections for the Ward of Holywell.

While Labour candidate for Reading East in the 2010 election, she explained several of her policy positions, including how she wouldn’t take the full salary available to MPs if elected, instead, only taking the average salary of the constituency and “invest[ing] the rest in an improved service” for constituents. On the economy, she argued for increased support for those who need retraining, and those who are long-term unemployed. Furthermore, she stated her desire for “smarter” regulation of the financial system. In terms of criminal justice, she said that helping drug addicts end their dependency, and prosecuting drug dealers whose customers end up dying was important; and in terms of education, she maintained it was important to “better join up children’s services across the fields of education, child care, health care and social services”.

Dodds was elected as a Member of the European Parliament for the South East England region in 2014. In the European Parliament, she sat on the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs.

While she was studying at Oxford at the time, she participated during protests over the setting of tuition fees in the year 2000 and also to support LGBT rights.

Dodds came from Aberdeen, Scotland, and was educated at the private Day school, Robert Gordon College. She relocated to southeast England in the year 1996. She completed her PPE in St Hilda’s College, Oxford where she graduated in 2001 with the first class degree.
