Anne-Marie Lagrange is one of the most popular and richest Astronomer who was born on March 12, 1962 in Rhone-Alpes, France. Anne-Marie Lagrange was born on 12 March 1962 in the Rhone-Alpes region , where her father worked at the French electric utility company Electricite de France S.A. as well as a mother who stayed at home. When she was five years old young her father was transferred into Ain which the Lagrange family relocated to Ceyzerieu where she went to elementary school. She went to college in Culoz and was a student at The Lycee du Bugey in Belley. At the time of her high school graduation she was extremely interested in maths and physics. She decided to further her education. Following the guidance of her teacher and members of the nearby Rotary Club, she enrolled to the Classe preparatoire aux large ecoles (CPGE) following the completion of her Baccalaureat in 1979. She became interested in the fields of research in science and found her niche.

In the late 1990s In the 90s, she began looking for exoplanets by direct imaging with the help of novel adaptive optics. In the early 2000s the focus of her work shifted specifically on studying giant planets orbiting young stars. In the year 2000 she was particularly interested in giant planets in the vicinity of young stars. In 2005 she made the first in-depth observation of an extraplanet in the vicinity of brown dwarfs by using deep adaptive optics. In her research she also employs the radial velocity technique and extends the technique to other kinds of stars. Additionally, she investigates the impact that stellar activities have on ability to detect planets.

Lagrange has devoted much of her career to the analysis of the star Beta Pictoris in the constellation Pictor. During her thesis in the 1980s, she studied the disc of debris that had just been discovered around this star. Several elements indicated the presence of a massive planet—β Pictoris b—but the scientific community remained skeptical. However, in the 2000s, Lagrange made several observations of the debris disc using adaptive optics coupled with direct imaging using a near-infrared spectrometer mounted on the Very Large Telescope (VLT) of the European Southern Observatory (ESO). On November 18, 2008, after processing the data taken in 2003 using reference star differential imaging and modern image processing tools, Lagrange discovered the exoplanet Beta Pictoris b orbiting around the star, confirming her earlier predictions.

She was made a knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor on April 2, 2010 and was appointed to the rank of officer of the Order of Merit on November 20, 2015. She was elected member of the Academy of Sciences on December 10, 2013. She was appointed to the Strategic Research Council on February 3, 2014.

Following her studies, Anne-Marie Lagrange did a year of postdoctoral research in the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Germany between 1989 and 1990. While on a mission to Chile she came across Pierre Lena who developed adaptive optics, and has a clear understanding of its potential for study and research of exoplanets. In 1990 she joined Laboratoire d’astrophysique de Grenoble (LAOG) under the supervision under the direction of Alain Omont and formed a small research group that focused on extrasolar planets and systems. The year 1994 was the first time she received her license to direct research, and has been a researcher at the CNRS. From 1997 to 2002 she worked as the scientist director for NAOS. NAOS instrument, which was the first adaptive optics to be installed to the Very Large Telescope (VLT) of the European Southern Observatory. In 2002-2003, she was the lead researcher for the preliminary study of the Spectro-Polarimetric High-Contrast Exoplanet research (SPHERE instrument) that is the which is the successor to NAOS which is specifically designed to study and study of exoplanets.

Anne-Marie Lagrange, born (1962-03-12 ) March 12, 1962, in the Rhone-Alpes region in France is an French astrophysicist. Lagrange’s interests are in the investigation and research of extrasolar planet systems. Lagrange is the recipient of many honorary scientific awards and awards, including Knight of the Legion of Honour (the highest French honorary order) and has been an active membre of the French Academy of Sciences since 2013.

The year 1982 was when she was a part of at the Ecole Polytechnique and did her military service for the first time as a section chief in the 8th Signal Regiment. She discovered astrophysics during an optional course given by Jean Audouze and found this discipline fascinating–connecting basic sciences with an exploratory side. In school she had one of her daughters. She completed her studies at Ecole Polytechnique in 1985. In the following year, she earned an award of in-depth studies (DEA) of astrophysics from Paris Diderot University. She then wrote an essay within the Institut d’astrophysique de Paris under the guidance by Alfred Vidal-Madjar. She was awarded her doctorate in 1989.

From 1999 to 2003, she was a part-time project manager at the Institut National des Sciences de l’Univers (INSU) and the Department of Universe Sciences at the French National Centre for Scientific Research, while continuing her research at LAOG. In 2000, she became the research director at CNRS. From 2004 to 2006, she was deputy director at INSU and CNRS, responsible for the Astronomy and Astrophysics division. From 2007, she was again a researcher at LAOG, which in 2011 became the Grenoble Institute of Planetology and Astrophysics (IPAG).
