Anne Haigis (born 9 December 1955) is an German musician who sings, songwriter and singer. In the 1980s, she achieved commercial success through blues, rock and ballads with a swaggering German using her own Swabian accent. In the 90s, she started incorporating English music from her native language recording with Tony Carey and Eric Burdon. Her passionate and intense voice has been praised as being one of Germany’s top contemporary vocalists, a “down to earth, charismatic, warm-hearted entertainer”.
The year 1990 was when Haigis changed her direction in her singing, not only in German for any length of time, and recorded No Man’s Land together with Tony Carey and Eric Burdon. In 1990, she resigned her from EMI Records. She was assisted by her advisor friend Peter Maffay, who helped her secure a deal with BMG-Ariola. She travelled between Los Angeles and Nashville to create Cry Wolf. Cry Wolf, on which she worked together with Kevin McCormick of the Melissa Etheridge Band, Barry Beckett and Nils Lofgren. In this time, she met Melissa Etheridge, who wrote the songs “Dancing in the Fire” and “Out of My Mind” for her. After coming out of Cry Wolf, Haigis went for a two-month tour across Europe together with Curtis Stigers. Then, she changed her band down from the rock genre to acoustic musicians and performed unplugged.
In 1999, she fulfilled her dream of recording an album by herself at an unusual location, far from everyday life and big city atmosphere; she rented a beach house on the Dutch North Sea coast installing a temporary studio for the production.
She was a guest singer on the “Tribute to Johnny Cash” tour, and since 2003 she has been a docent teacher in gospel workshops. In 2005, she produced the live album 8:00 pm together with her guitarist Jens Filser. In 2007, she produced the album Good day for the Blues after fans asked her to get back to the blues. In 2011, she toured Germany with her album wanderlust, widely praised in the press.
After her separation her from Wolfgang Dauner she changed from singing English jazz to German music for the German language. Her first German album of German is Anne Haigis (1984), recorded by Edo Zanki and EMI Electrola. The song “Freundin” climbed the charts and became her first major-country success. She appeared frequently on German television shows featuring Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff Rudi Carell Thomas Gottschalk, Ohne Filter and many more. In 1985 the band came out with Lass mich fallen wie Schnee and in 1987, her biggest hit record to date was Geheime Zeichen recorded by Tony Carey; and in 1989, she released Indigo, which was recorded with Wolf Maahn and Mandy van Baaren. For this album, she was awarded the Grammy for German pop music. She has declared Indigo her personal favourite album.

Anne Haigis was born in Rottweil, Southern Germany, located close to Stuttgart as well as Lake Constance. His father worked as an electromechanic, and she was the master Taylor. She began playing the flute, and later joined the chamber orchestra. When she was fourteen she resigned from the orchestra and began to learn the basics of guitar to sing along with the “smalltown blues”. In the Stuttgart group of musicians, she was introduced to the rock group Foggy Day, who convinced Haigis to pursue profession. The year was 1971 when she quit school and home in Rottweil to move to Stuttgart at the age of 16.
In 1974, at the age of 19 she became part of Interstate Roadshow, a band that mostly performed at US soldiers in clubs. In the holidays, she performed with French musicians in cafes, restaurants and bars in St. Tropez. In the year she was born, she joined a jazz group. The year was 1981 when Haigis recorded her critically acclaimed debut album, For Here Where the story is, which was produced by her friend and later her partner Wolfgang Dauner. Haigis embarked on her first major tour and also performed with by the United Rock & Jazz Ensemble as a supporting band. Her second popular record Fingernails came out. In addition to her touring, she sang as a guest in her band, the Radio Jazz Group of Sudfunk Stuttgart and was also requested by the NDR in addition to Bayerischer Rundfunk radio productions as the soloist. She was part with Wolfhound, the Band Wolfhound by Wolfgang Schmidt and is seen in the tracks “Hallelujah” and “Neverending Story”.
In 1997, she played with Franz Benton, supported by Geiger Mani Neumann (Trio Farfarello) amongst others, the live album Dancing in the Fire at Club Bel Air in Cologne. Accompanied by Klaus Spangenberg, Jörg Hamers and Erich Strebel, she gave 200 concerts, including a short tour in Brasil. Back in Germany she developed her own style collaborating with “RE” and interpreted songs by Airto, Flora Purim, George Benson and Randy Crawford in her way.
