In the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships, Grimaldi competed in the 200 m heats, but pulled out of the final of 200 m and 100m due to a foot injury that has recurred to focus in the long leap. She was third in the long-jump, but missed the medals by 1 centimeter. Grimaldi’s foot injuries were later determined to be caused by the stress fracture of her left Navicular bone.
Grimaldi was named to be a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2017 New Year Honours, for her contributions to athletics.

Grimaldi began her para-athletic journey after attending an Paralympic talent- identification event in October of 2013. At first, she was hesitant to participate, as she never had formal athletics instruction and worried that she might be “shocking”. The classification for her is T47 to track competitions as well as long jumps as well as F46 to field activities. She was awarded her first medal at an international competition which was a bronze medal in the women’s long leap T47 at the 2014 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar. Grimaldi set a personal best of 5.41 meters, and her second-highest 5.38 meters earned her the bronze medal , beating Russian Alexandra Moguchaya on countback. Grimaldi was also sixth in the female 200 m T47 final.
Her long-jump distance during the 2014 World Championships ranked her in the top five of the T47 long-jump distance over the Paralympics qualifying time, earning her a spot in the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. The official confirmation was made as a representative of New Zealand at the Paralympics on the 23rd of May, 2016. At the Paralympics she was awarded an Olympic gold medal for women’s long leap T47 with a jump of 5.62 meters, surpassing her personal record by 21 centimeters. She also finished third in the ladies’ 100m T47 final, and then competed in the 200 meters T47 in which she was disqualified from the heat due to an infraction to the lane.
