She was previously a member of the California State Assembly representing the 30th Assembly District that encompasses all of the Pajaro as well as the Salinas Valleys in the Central Coast from 2016 to 2018. Caballero failed to run for California State Senate in 2010 He lost the race against Republican Ceres Mayor Anthony Cannella in an upset. Following the fact that Cannella was ruled ineligible into Senate State Senate after serving two terms, Caballero was finally elected to the State Senate in 2018, beating Republican Madera County Supervisor Rob Poythress.
In 2018, Caballero announced that she would again run for the state Senate to succeed Cannella, who is term-limited.
Caballero was a candidate for the California State Senate in 2010 to succeed his term-limited Republican incumbent Jeff Denham, who ran with success for Congress. It was a shocker that Caballero was defeated by Ceres City Mayor Anthony Cannella.
