In 2003, following a stint over 13 years with MoMA for 13 years, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Ann Temkin returned to working in the sculpture and painting department of MoMA. Temkin was appointed to be the Marie Josee as well as the Henry Kravis Curator for Painting and Sculpture in 2008. The first woman to be appointed to this position, which is considered to be one of to be the most highly regarded in modern art.

It was 1998 when Temkin got married in 1998 to American biophysicist and professor at the University, Wayne Hendrickson.

The year was 1981 when Temkin was awarded an undergraduate degree at Harvard University. The following year, Temkin earned the Ph.D in art history at Yale University.

Following her doctoral degree, Temkin was appointed an assistant curator within the Department of Painting and Sculpture at MoMA in 1984. In 1987, she began her work in the Philadelphia Museum of Art under director Anne d’Harnoncourt. After a time as the Acting Curator Ann was appointed as the Muriel and Philip Berman Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art in 1990. She was involved in shows like Barnett Newman (2002), Alice Neel (2001), Constantin Brancusi (1995) as well as the exhibition Thinking Is Form: The Drawings of Joseph Beuys (1994). She has commissioned new work by artists such as Sherrie Levine, Rirkrit Tiravanija and Richard Hamilton for her “Museum Studies” series, which she designed herself. Temkin was also the architect responsible for the restoration to the contemporary and modern galleries of The Philadelphia Museum of Art.

As the Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture she was responsible for curating or co-curating exhibitions including: Picasso Sculpture (2015); Robert Gober: The Heart Is Not a Metaphor (2014), the artist’s first American retrospective; Jasper Johns: Regrets (2014); Ileana Sonnabend: Ambassador for the New (2013); Ellsworth Kelly: Chatham Series (2013); Claes Oldenburg: The Street and The Store and Mouse Museum/Ray Gun Wing (2013); Abstract Expressionist New York (2010); Gabriel Orozco (2009); and Color Chart: Reinventing Color, 1950 to Today (2008).
