Ann Chiang Biography

Ann Chiang is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on May 16, 1955 in Hong Kong. Ann Chiang Lai-wan SBS, JP, (Chinese: Jiang Li Yun was born on the 16th of May, 1955.) is the chairperson of C&L Holdings and a pro-Beijing member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council. The second child of Chiang Chen who is a Hong Kong entrepreneur.

Chiang was elected to the council in 2012. Chiang got elected a Member of the Member of Legislative Council (Representative for Kowloon West) and was elected to her seat in the year 2016.

In 2019, amidst the anti-extradition bill protests, Chiang shared a video on her Facebook page alleging that Civil Human Rights Front convener Jimmy Sham had “never mentioned his sexual orientation,” urging her supporters to share the video. Following complaints from LGBT activists, a Facebook spokesperson confirmed that the post had been removed for violating the social media platform’s Community Standards. Chiang responded, “If you’ve already came out, then face it. Don’t easily complain someone’s attacking you, understood?” Sham stated that Chiang was incorrect as he had publicly identified himself as a member of LGBT activist group Rainbow Action and welcomed Facebook’s deletion of the post.

In the COVID-19 epidemic, Hong Kong experienced a shortage of surgical masks. Chiang has publicly urged steaming masks to sterilize masks for reuse through reposting a clip from the Chinese broadcaster Guangzhou Broadcasting Network on Facebook showing the procedure. Centre for Health Protection controller Wong Ka-hing who is a physician who has a background in medicine, challenged Chiang’s assertion and the center warned Hong Kong residents that surgical masks can’t be reused using steaming and not to believe claims that come from “unreliable sources”. A fellow politician Helena Wong called on Chiang to resign as chairman of the Legislative Council’s Panel on Health Services. In the face to widespread criticism and ridicule Chiang was steadfast in her assertions and said that medical professionals who were sick with SARS in 2003 following the re-use of masks on their faces were fine had they had steamed them.
