Anna Theodora Bernardina “Ank” Bijleveld-Schouten (born 17 March 1962) is an Dutch politician belonging to the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) who has been the minister of Defence in the third cabinet of the Prime Secretary Mark Rutte since 26 October 2017.

A civil servant in the field she was an elected representative in the House of Representatives from 16 November 1989 to 16 January 2001, at which point she was elected the Mayor of Hof van Twente, serving from the 1st of January 2001 to 22 February 2007. She resigned following her appointment as appointed State Secretary for Interior and Kingdom Relations within the 4th Balkenende cabinet. She was in office from 22 February 2007 to 14 October 2010. Following the 2010 election, Bijleveld returned to the House of Representatives serving from 17 June 2010 to 1 January 2011, at which point she resigned following her appointment as named King’s Commissioner of Overijssel. After the 2017 election, Bijleveld was asked to take on the role of the Minister of Defence in the cabinet of Third Rutte. Bijleveld was accepted and then resigned as the King’s Commissioner for Overijssel on the day she became her new minister of Defence on the 26th of October, 2017.

Early in her tenure, Bijleveld oversaw Dutch efforts to disrupt a 2018 attempt by Russian intelligence agents to hack the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

In 1986, Bijleveld became one of members on the Enschede municipal council of The Christian Democratic Appeal. She was a member of the House of Representatives from 16 November 1989 to the 16th of January in 2001. She was the Mayor of Hof van Twente from 1 January 2001 to 22 February 2007 when she resigned as the State secretary for Interior and Kingdom Relations in the Fourth Balkenende cabinet from 14 October 2010. The 17th June of 2010 was the day she was elected a Member of the House of Representatives. She served as an MP until 1 January 2011, when she was appointed the King’s Commissioner for Overijssel.
