Hazekamp was a member of Hazekamp joined the Party for the Animals and was elected to the States of Groningen, where she was elected between the 15th of March 2007 to the 25th of June in 2014. She was replaced by Marianne Thieme in the House of Representatives of the Netherlands between January 24, 2012 until 14 May 2012 during the time that Thieme was pregnant.

Anja Hazekamp (born 21 January 1968) is an Dutch politician and a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Netherlands. She is an active part of the Party for the Animals, which is part of the European United Link-Nordic Green Left. Prior to that, she was a member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands in 2012, and a member of the State of Groningen from 2007 until the year 2014.

Hazekamp was a public relations officer in Hazekamp was a public relations official for the Dutch Society for the Protection of Animals between 1992 until 1997. She also served as a scientist for two organisations related to the fauna from 1995 to 1997. In 1995, she was hired by Utrecht University and Leiden University as a researcher in the field of testing on animals between 1997 and 2000. She was re-hired by the Dutch Society for the Protection of Animals in the year 2000, and was employed during five years as an policy worker. After that, she was employed at the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre as a policy officer until the year 2009. She was appointed the senior policy advisor of Stichting AAP [nl] , in which position she worked from 2009 until 2014.

She has been a Member of the European Parliament since July 2014 and was reelected in 2019.
