After she completed her degree of journalism Anita got a job offer from Arun Shourie who was then Editor for The Indian Express in Delhi. After that, she was moved to Bangalore to stay alongside her family. Soon after, she became a part of Sunday Magazine. Her passion for journalism was international politics which brought her to ethnic conflicts that raged in Sri Lanka. She visited numerous places to collect first-hand details. She was interviewed in 1983. sat down with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam’s (LTTE) chief Velupillai Prabhakaran. This was the first interview Prabhakaran presented to the world, in which he discussed his philosophy behind the creation of LTTE and of taking the situation on his own rather than relying on the government and his plans for the future. Anita was recognized immediately internationally. She continued to efforts on the island of Sri Lanka and later in 2003, she published her first novel Island of Blood writing down the experiences she had while living in terror-stricken regions.
Moving to television instead of printing mediums, Anita also made various documentary films on social issues as well as the arts. The most notable of these is Light Up The Sky, she explores the transformation of rebellious Mizoram into a democratically-governed state. Documentaries she has made, Orphans of an Ancient Civilization highlight the hardships faced by craftsmen and The Soul Glows documents folk dance practices. The Shabash Hallelujah documentary was made about the Naga Regiment. Co-authoring it with a photographer from Bangalore Mahesh Bhatt. Bhatt released her unpublished book in 2007, telling the stories of nine common Indian people who served society.
Anita was born in Kottayam, Kerala in a Syrian Catholic family. Her father was employed with a Tata group enterprise, he was posted at different locations in India taking his family with him. As a child Anita changed seven schools in eleven years. She passed Senior Cambridge from a Loreto School Kolkata and did her BA – English from Miranda House, New Delhi in 1978 and diploma in journalism from Bangalore University.
She was the first bride to be married with Pratap Chandran and she has one son named Zubin from her previous relationship born at the age of aged 22. Pratap Chandran had been a top journalist at The Indian Express where the two of them met. After divorce, she separated from Chandran and took charge of their son. The year 1999 was the time she was married Arne Roy Walther Arne Roy Walther, who is a Norwegian diplomat. Walther also had a second marriage.

Anita Pratap is an expatriate Indian journalist and writer. In 1983 Pratap was among the journalists to conducted an interview with LTTE Chief V. Prabhakaran. She was awarded the George Polk award for TV reporting in recognition of her television reporting on the annexation by Kabul from the Taliban. She was India the bureau chief of CNN.
