Angelo Farrugia is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on December 29, 1955 in Mosta, Malta. Angelo “Anglu” Farrugia (born 29 December 1955) is a Maltese politician who is the President of the House of Representatives of Malta. In the past, he was the as the Deputy Leader of Labour Party, a Member of Parliament, and Shadow Minister of work, workers rights, and parliamentary issues.
He has been a part of numerous EU as well as OSCE mission as observer in various elections, such as Georgia (1999) as well as The Presidential Election in Palestinian Authority (2004) and in the 2004 US Presidential Election, the Montenegrin independence referendum (2006) and the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in Zambia 2006.
In April 2013 he was nominated as Speaker of the House of Representatives, succeeding Michael Frendo.
In 2016, Farrugia was elected as the Chairperson of the Small Branches network of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) for a three year term. The CPA Small Branches network represents those Parliaments and Legislatures in the Commonwealth with a population of less than 500,000 people.
His first election to the Parliament in the year 1996. He was returned for the years 1998 and 2003, and 2008. He was a member of the House Committee of the Consideration of Bills as Chairman (1996-98) and also as a member (since the year 1998). Between 1998 and 2008, Farrugia was an interim Minister of Justice and was elected as Labour’s Deputy Leader of Parliamentary Affairs. The same year, Farrugia was named as the Opposition Spokesperson on Employment and Worker Rights the same year.

Prior to his political career, Farrugia had served from 1977 until 1996 as a police officer, eventually rising to the grade of Superintendent. In 1987, Farrugia began a law program in the University of Malta, eventually earning two degrees: LL.D. and M.Jur. (magna cum laude).
Farrugia was appointed Director Maltese’s Organization for Security and Co- operation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly delegation in the year 1996.
Farrugia resigned as Deputy Leader in 2012 following comments he had made about a member of the judiciary. Farrugia subsequently announced his decision to not stand for the general election in 2013.
