Nissel was also promoting the novel through her signature on posts in Internet forums. Nissel was also featured on Oprah and appeared alongside the mother of her child on 20/20 in addition to her second novel, Mixed: My Life in Black and White, a hilarious reflection on growing up the daughter of a biracial couple.
On October 28, 2006, Nissel made her debut as a panelist on NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!. In 1999, she founded the music-related website Okayplayer with The Roots’ drummer Ahmir Thompson.

Angela R. Nissel (born on December 5th in 1977) is a TV writer and American author who is best famous for her first novel, The Broke Diaries: The Completely Real and hilarious Adventures of a Good Girl who is Broke. She was an executive producer and writer of Scrubs and is currently working on the television series along together with Halle Berry, who optioned both of her books. Nissel is the co-executive producer as well as writer for ABC’s Mixedish.
Nissel is a native of Philadelphia and was raised in Philadelphia. She went to her school at the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts in which she earned her degree in Creative Writing, and she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998 with the degree of medical anthropology.
