Angela Monson was born on July 31, 1955 in the home of the parents Herman Monson and Epron Monson, who resided in Oklahoma City. Monson was educated at Oklahoma City public schools and was a graduate of Douglass High School. Monson went on to in her very first semester at University of Oklahoma (OU) as a Presidential Leadership Class scholarship. Because OU did not offer the degree she wanted, Monson transferred to Oklahoma City University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in law corrections (criminal justice).

After her stint as a senator, Monson became employed by the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center as the Director in charge of Health Policy Development and Analysis. Monson is also a part of both the OU Medical Center board of trustees and the Oklahoma City/County board for health. Plans to retire after the year 2018.

Between 1990 and 1993, Monson was the District 99 legislator. From 1993 until 2005, she was an Oklahoma senator from District 48 which includes areas of the northeastern part of Oklahoma County. While in the Senate, Monson sponsored many health care bills and was extensively involved in Oklahoma Healthcare Authority. Angela Z. Monson (born July 31st 1955) is an American politician from Oklahoma who was a member of the Oklahoma State House of Representatives in District 99 from 1990 to 1993. She also served as serving in the Oklahoma Senate serving District 48 between 1993 and 2005. The year 2003 saw her was one of the few African American woman assistant majority floor leader of the Oklahoma legislature. Monson beat the incumbent Kirk Humphreys, a former Oklahoma City mayor, for the post of chairman of the school board in 2009. She was in office until 2013.

Following graduation, Monson was hired as an on-the-go city manager for six towns that were predominantly African-American in Oklahoma. Then she was appointed an economic analyst to the Oklahoma state legislature. Monson first ran for office in 1984, but lost by about 130 votes to the incumbent. Following her first election ended, she lost an employment and began into Equitable Life Insurance Company. Although she had stated an intention to retire in 2018, she is currently employed by the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center as Director of Health Policy Development and Analysis, as well as being Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. She is also a member of the OU Medical Center Board of Trustees (a hospital board) and is also a member of the Oklahoma City/County Board of Health.
