She is an American professional golfer as well as a golf course designer. Amy Alcott joined the LPGA Tour in 1975, and was the winner of five major championships as well as the equivalent of 29 LPGA Tour events in all. She is a part of the World Golf Hall of Fame. She was part of the team of architects who designed the golf course in preparation for this year’s Summer Olympics which took place in Rio de Janeiro.

It was announced that the Women’s British Open replaced the du Maurier Classic as an LPGA major in 2001. In 2013, the Evian Championship was added as major tournament in 2013.

The win was her 29th in her professional career. At the time it was the time when it was believed that the LPGA Hall of Fame required at least 30 wins in a career in order to qualify for membership. Alcott was chasing her 30th win but failed for the next few years. In 1999 the LPGA changed to a points-based system in which Alcott was admitted and was admitted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Alcott is a native of Kansas City, Missouri, and is Jewish. She won the U.S. Girls’ Junior title in 1973. She made her professional debut in 1975 at the age of 18, right after she graduated at the age of 18 from Palisades High School in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. The first time she won was only her third tournament as a professional in the Orange Blossom Classic on the LPGA Tour. She was later recognized as the LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year. Alcott had won four tournaments over the course of a year, three times in 1979, 1981, and 1984. Her most successful year was 1980, she won four tournaments. In addition to these wins, she also took home the LPGA Vare Trophy for lowest scoring average. She also placed in second place five times and was ranked in the top 10 in 21 of the 28 tournaments she that she played.

The first major championship win for Alcott was at the 1979 Peter Jackson Classic (later renamed the du Maurier Classic). She then went on to take home the U.S. Women’s Open in 1980, and also her first major championship, the Nabisco Dinah Shore in three times in 1983, 1988 and in 1991. In 1991, the Nabisco Dinah Shore was her final win in the LPGA Tour. Following her victory at in 1988 at the Dinah Shore, Alcott initiated what has become a tradition that sees the winner leap into the pond of Poppie to celebrate.

From 2001 to 2004, the Office Depot Championship Hosted by Amy Alcott was a part of the LPGA Tour. Following the end of her touring days, Alcott started working in golf course design and also hosted a satellite radio program. She has written an instructional book and taped an instructional video. Alcott, who is Jewish, is also a member of the National Jewish Museum Sports Hall of Fame. In July 2007, Alcott accepted the position as girls’ golf coach at Harvard-Westlake School in North Hollywood, California.
