Amina was second in the contest after an unofficial countback, scoring the same to 146 points with Carola who hails from Sweden.
As of 1991, Amina was awarded ‘Le Prix Piaf’ for Best Female singer of the year, after which she was able to be a part of Peter Gabriel’s peace initiative throughout the Gulf War. Alongside a number of international artists at the studio Amina participated in the making of an EP that featured the new version of John the song by John Lennon “Give Peace a Chance”. In the same year, she also participated as a contestant in an event called the Eurovision Song Contest held in Rome with a track that she composed, titled Le Dernier qui a parle …. she tied together with The Swedish participant for first position, however according to the EBU’s rules that the French entry came in 2nd place and the trophy was awarded to Sweden.
In 1994 Malcolm McLaren asked Amina to guest on his album, Paris, along with Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Hardy. After that Amina took a long break travelling to her homeland and she was back in 1999 with new albums and concerts around the globe.
She read the French jury’s votes during the final of Melodifestivalen 2010.
When she recorded an album in collaboration with Japanese singer Yasuaki Shimizu She became extremely well-known in Japan which she even toured in 1987. Amina was born to a family of musicians. She has a father who was French as is her mom, who’s Tunisian. Her mother was a musician, and the uncle she had was instrumental in the creation of Tabarka Festival. Tabarka Festival in Tunisia, which is why Amina had the opportunity to witness a range of musicians, taking to performances of Joan Baez, James Brown and the well-known Algerian starlet Warda. It was during Tabarka that at Tabarka musical festival where Amina was able to be introduced to the young Senegalese singer Wasis Diop. They became close friends and were able to work together a few years afterward. After 1975 Amina as well as her mum who was a gifted composer and musician, relocated with her mother to Paris.
Three years after that, Amina started her own group after demonstrating her talents in dance and singing. diverse range of styles of music from soul to traditional aigyptian music. In 1993 Amina got to play the lead female role opposite Spanish star Miguel Bosé in La Nuit sacrée. Later that year she got involved with an English film entitled The Hour of the Pig. Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky chose Amina to play in his film Ulysse, which was broadcast on US networks.
