Annan was born in Wentworthville (New South Wales) on 12 June 1973. In 1999, she was named the World’s Best Female Hockey Player. She led the Australian team to the 2000 Summer Olympics gold medal. After retiring from international competition, she moved to the Netherlands. She played in the Netherlands for HC Klein Zwitserland, a Dutch league team. In 2003, she retired and became the coach of the Dutch league team HC Klein Zwitserland. She was the assistant to Marc Lammers, the Dutch Head Coach, at the 2004 Summer Olympics, Athens, Greece. The Netherlands won silver.
Annan was inducted into Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2013.
Annan was to coach the Amsterdamsche Hockey & Bandy Club’s first women’s hockey team during the 2012-2013 season.

Alyson Regina Annan OAM, born 12 June 1973, is an Australian former field hockey player who won 228 international caps for her Women’s National Team. She scored 166 goals. Annan is currently the head coach for the Netherlands women’s field hockey team. She led the team to a silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. Annan was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2013.
Maximiliano Caldas, an Argentinian hockey player was Annan’s husband. Her partner was Carole Thate, an ex-Dutch hockey captain and fellow Olympic gold medallist. Annan and Thate were blessed with their first child, Sam Henk Brian Thate in May 2007. Cooper Thate was their second child, and he was born in October 2008.
In October 2015 she was named as head coach of the Netherlands women’s team, succeeding Sjoerd Marijne. Annan’s former husband Max Caldas previously coached the Netherlands women’s team to a gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games. During the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro Annan coached her team to a silver medal losing to the Great Britain Team after shoot-outs in the final.
