It was announced on 18 August 2017 that Sarah Long, a Kickboxer, was Meleisea’s mandatory challenger. At the time, Long had been involved in nine kickboxing fights and four professional boxing fights. The original fight was scheduled for October. However, it was delayed because Terry Tuteru, Long’s trainer, had a fight with another boxer. The fight was scheduled to take place at ABA Stadium in November 2017. It was announced on 6 October 2017. Long was knocked out in the second round. It was an extremely close fight. Meleisea won her New Zealand National (NZPBA) title unanimously.
On 18 May 2018, it was announced that Meleisea will have a rematch against Sarah Long, defending her New Zealand National (NZPBA version) title. This time Sarah Long’s manager, Terry Tuteru will be promoting the event, under their Ultimate rage event series “Ultimate Rage 5”. The bout will take place on 23 June 2018 in Onehunga, New Zealand. This has been labeled a grudge match as some believe that the first bout was controversial and the decision should have gone to Sarah Long. Meleisea has had a big training camp for this bout, having sparing sessions with Robert Berridge and Gunnar Jackson. On 20 June, it was announced that the bout between Meleisea and Long was postponed due to a death of a family member from Alrie Meleisea. On 19 September 2019, it was announce that the rematch between Sarah Long and Alrie Meliesea will happen on 28 September at ABA Stadium. The fight was a very close fight throughout the bout, but the decision ended in controversy. The ending in a draw was adequate, but the scoring from the judges shocked people. Judge 1 Adrian Bently who was acting as Supervisor of the night and the more experienced judge on the panel, had the card 40 – 36 to Alrie Meleisea. Judge 2 Kendall Cooper had the card 38 – 38 which was probably the most accurate score out of the judges. And finally, Judge 3 Smita Tailor who is the least experienced judge out of the panel had the scores 40 – 36 to Sarah Long.

Meleisea fought Helu on 28 October 2016 on the Robert Berridge and Adrian Taihia Undercard. The bout was originally scheduled for Helu against Cheyenne Whaanga to win the vacant NZPBA female lightweight title. However, Whaanga suffered an injury and pulled out one week before the fight. Meleisea defeated Helu within 48 hours. Helu won the fight easily due to his last-minute opponent. However, Meleisea won by Split Decision. This was the surprise of the year.

On 5 November 2016, Meleisea took on Lupeamanu in Hamilton, New Zealand. Meleisea won the fight almost immediately after beating Helu in her professional debut. Meleisea won by unanimous decision and stunned the New Zealand heavyweight division for two weeks. Lupeamanu, four months after the bout, announced that she had been diagnosed with a brain tumour and was forced to withdraw from professional boxing. Her fight against Meleisea would be her last.
On 10 March 2017, Meleisea took on Hely for the vacant NZPBA and vacant UBF Asia pacific heavyweight titles. This bout was difficult to make happen, due to Helu had a rematch clause to fight Ange Davis for the vacant NZPBA title. Due to Davis getting injured, Meleisea was next in line for the title shot. Meleisea won the bout by Split decision however the reaction of the audience and social media was split 50/50, some believing it was a controversial decision.
