Alisa Melekhina is one of the most popular and richest Chess Player who was born on June 26, 1991 in Simferopol, Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Ukraine. Melekhina was conceived in Simferopol, in 1991. When she was just two months old, her parents brought her to America. While her father was completing his dental re-accreditation, they settled in Brooklyn, New York. Five years later, they moved to Philadelphia where Melekhina has lived ever since. Melekhina, who was 5 years old when her father was her only coach, learned chess and she participated in her first tournament at 7. At the same time, she began Vaganova-style ballet lessons and has been dancing pointe and ballet ever since. She was 6 years old when she wrote “The Frog Princess”, a translation of a Russian fairy tale. At age 8, she was a published author.

Melekhina, who wrote an article about “Career Crossroads” was featured on the cover for Chess Life magazine’s April 2015 issue.

Melekhina is a regular contender in the U.S Women’s Chess Championship. She has also represented the United States at numerous World Youth and Junior Chess Championships where she has been in the top ten. She was fifth at the 2014 US Women’s Championships. In May 2014, she graduated from University of Pennsylvania Law School at the age of 22.
